Your church's ordinary, weekly Sunday bulletin may be small and a seemingly minor ministry in comparison to sermons, mission trips, prayer meetings, and potluck. It is frequently, however, the first piece of physical evidence defining your congregation to it's visitors. Many visitors also take the bulletin home with them after attending the worship service for the first time as do many long time members of your congregation.
I've listed here important content for the bulletin that is most effective in communicating necessary information:
- Include a topically relevant illustration that will captivate the congregation's interest during the service.
- Include the name, address, e-mail, and telephone number of the church
- Include the service for the day and weekly Bible readings
- Include an invitation to call on the pastor
- Include prayer requests
- Include weekly scheduled events
- Include topic for next week's sermon
- Include an invitation for membership in your church
- Include an invitation for salvation through Christ
Consider also offering a large print bulletin for those who have difficulty reading print and include inserts about outside community events, mission opportunities and a children's puzzle/coloring page for those little ones that parents may have trouble occupying during a lengthy service.
