It's spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~Mark Twain

My fever this year seems to be crepe paper ruffles, flowers, glitter and my Cricut.  You should make one too!  Any stray alcoves, banisters, mantles and doors are excellent displays for HOLIDAY!

Easter is spilling into every crevice of my home this year

(hmm... wonder why?  New craft blog???)

and this chick is the latest craft, on the stairs this time!

And there's actually two, my first try, the smaller behind the larger, didn't turn out so "Easter-y"

I used some posterboard leftover from who knows what and drew a basic bird shape, about 2 feet wide at the widest and 1 ft high at the highest and cut out some leftover fabric.  I sewed the basic shape together, with burlap cut out for a beak, and then stuffed it.  For the eyes I just layered circles of bird page with one circle of turquoise crepe paper and then a brilliant blue button on top.  I should have sewn the eye on, but this bird isn't going in the wash ever with that paper so hot glue worked!  The wing is a cardboard shape that I covered.  I made a few twists of book pages (like the wreath tutorials out there) and then wrapped layers of crepe paper and book page over the top of those.   Anyway, hope you like it!!  If you guys need a tutorial, let us know in a comment and we'll make a tutorial!

A few weeks ago Courtney at A Diamond in the Stuff had a tutorial for homemade apothecary jars...

recognize the middle?

Now?

Yep, those are Mason Jars!  We LOVED the idea so we had to make an Easter version!  First I bought a couple of candlesticks from the thrift store (Lucky Glitta already had a bunch!) and then wood finials from Lowes.  I spray painted them all the same cream, then sanded and antiqued them.  And they couldn't really qualify for Easter if they didn't have eggs inside, right?  So I added some of my bookpage eggs, and made some robin eggs.  I bought a pack of mini styrofoam eggs for a buck at Target and painted them with Valspar spray paint in Mediterranean and then flecked them with a few spritzes of antiquing solution:
Original colors

skewered them on bamboo skewers and put in a planting blocks, as if they were cake pops

Spray painted and flecked, but one did not fare so well...

Little Robin eggs for a dollar!

The idea came from Jen at Tater Tots and Jello and the tutorial is in her post here. Now we used a glass plate and a glass candle stick and then added a little crepe paper ruffle (because Dot and I just can't seem to get enough of crepe paper these days...would it be weird to dress our kids in it? or is that a little junk in the trunk?)
And what is it about Easter time that makes carrots so endearing? If only I could convince my children....
Did I mention that we have a small love affair with crepe paper right now. I mean who knew that twisting that cheap crinkly paper from birthdays past could amount to a little gem of a flower or a ruffle of color there? I mean seriously people go get some crepe paper if you haven't used it lately!! So once again, our thanks to the Tater Tots genius who thought of turning a lowly dollar store tray and candle stick into a snobbish little tray you really can make for any Holiday!!
